4 step complete mouth care system to save you so much
Y'all are going to think I'm crazy, but this will prevent expensive dental work
Y'all are going to think I'm crazy.
But since we have been talking about paradigm shifts lately (the problem with functional medicine & my unconventional healing techniques), I thought I would throw another one out there for ya, because that’s what I’m here for ;)
I'm not going to talk about the things I have talked about before or the common things you have heard in the holistic dental world like oil-pulling, ozone, biological dentists, hydroxyapatite, the dental diet etc.
I’m going to outline a completely, should I say almost contradictory approach. Stick with me.
All of this stems from the Dentist Dr. Ellie Phillips. I read her books and watched all of her videos which were convincing enough to to try out her protocol, which is significantly different from what I had been doing for the last 15 years.
Problems
Did you know that in many cultures there is a saying that goes “You lose a tooth for every child” talking about how hard pregnancy is on your oral health.
I've been pregnant 6 times. When you are pregnant, the saliva in your mouth is acidic the entire time, which is why dental problems are so common in pregnancy. When your mouth is constantly acidic, that's when cavities form, when your teeth become soft and vulnerable to wearing down, and when your gums get inflamed.
Constantly snacking and throwing up are two of the worst things you can do for your teeth, which, hello pregnancy, hard to avoid that. During my most recent pregnancy and the hard first trimester of throwing up so much, I started noticing my teeth wearing down and my mouth never felt 100% healthy no matter how much I didn't eat sugar or oil pulled or brushed or flossed with my natural products.

This lady has not flossed or had a dental cleaning in 45 years and her teeth are pristine. She has 5 kids and 8 grandkids and their teeth are perfect with zero cavities or problems. The comments and testimonies of people doing this system are insane so I wanted to try it, and it worked amazingly well. My mouth has never felt cleaner, the deterioration has reversed, and I haven’t had any gum or dental problems this pregnancy.
The Complete 4-Step Mouth Care System
Now this is where it will get controversial. . .
Listen, I didn't use fluoride or mouthwash for 15 years, so trust me when I say this was a big paradigm shift that took a lot of research and an open mind to change. I was a hardcore anti-fluoride gal as fluoride is a no-no in the holistic health world, and of course, mouthwash destroys the microbiome in your mouth. . . right?
Well, maybe not.
This post would be so long if I go into the reasons these specific products work synergistically together to prevent specific bad bacteria that cause decay as well as remineralize your teeth - I would read her book or watch her videos, but all I can say is, I have personally experienced this system working wonders for me and my mouth has never felt cleaner.

Best of all, all of these products are over the counter and inexpensive (which holistic products are not, at all).
It’s very simple. I just do these four steps in the morning and night, it takes maybe 4 minutes.
Step One: Closys
The first step is letting the closys rinse rest in your mouth for one minute. No swishing but rather letting it sink into your gum pockets.
Step Two: Brush
Then you brush with this toothpaste. I know I know, I would have never. But she goes into great detail about why this specific paste works and the type of fluoride in it. You don't want to just get any fluoride toothpaste, it needs to be this one. Don't rinse with water, just spit it out.
To brush, she recommends these flosser toothbrushes.
Step Three: Listerine
I know, I almost walked away after seeing this one, too. But, take the time to listen to what she has to say about it. You want the original or cool mint Listerine only, the other ones are not good and won't work.
You rinse your toothpaste out with this step. This you want to swish vigorously to make sure it's getting out everything between your teeth.
Step Four: Rinse
The last step in the morning and night routine is Act rinse as a way to get the mouth back to a proper pH and seal and protect the teeth. The very specific one she recommends here.
Also, consume 5-10 grams of xylitol a day
The last part of her protocol is consuming 5-10 grams of xylitol a day. She dives heavily into the healing and preventive power of xylitol. She recommends having a Xylitol mint or gum after meals to counteract the acidity of that meal.
I do this by chewing a piece of xylitol gum after meals snacks or drinks. This is a huge key to keeping your mouth healthy. I use this one.
A big paradigm shift is that brushing and flossing are not the biggest part of having healthy teeth. The most important part is counteracting the acidity all day long that matters the most. You do that by not snacking and consuming xylitol regularly throughout the day.
I love how she explains: look- yes I wish some of these ingredients were not in these products. But, having a mouth that is completely free of inflammation, harmful bacteria, and decay is far healthier than the few ingredients that are not great. The amount you are using topically to your teeth is so small for such a short amount of time. And, I do believe I saved myself thousands worth of dental work the way my teeth were heading so right now, I'm a believer.
If I wasn’t struggling, I probably wouldn’t have tried this, but if you are struggling with any dental issues, want to reverse cavities, or want to prevent them, try this protocol out for at least 4-6 months and see the transformation. This is what I would recommend for extra strength care, if you have no issues, you may not need this if you want to avoid these products.
